Some of this weeks footage has been on a very long journey - transfered from one format to another over the years the quality may have suffered but the spirit of thoses times still shines through.

The John Wray McCann Show - 1976

This footage has only recently been restored from tapes that have been in storage for more than 30 years.

The first “John Wray McCann Show” recorded in the studio at Williamstown was a huge undertaking and marks the first time a show was produced in front of a studio audience.

This clip is a compilation from that show along with promo footage shot around the same time.
John Wray McCann - the Poet

A feature of the “John Wray McCann Shows” were his poetry readings. Each show would include a number of readings, either as pieces presented from the host set or as pre-recorded segments run “live” into the program.

This poem titled “546 days” is from the first show recorded in 1976.
Arthur Stevens - The Last Three Years

In 1976, Arthur Stevens created the video newsletter called “Video Newsreel”.

He was a regular videomaker at Freyer Street during 1976/77 - enough so that he accepted the role of guard in the “test scene” version of Rob Mandersons “The Spider and the Fly”.

In this segment from the “Last Three Years”, host David Grech asks how “Video Newsreel” came about and how Arthur came to be involved with access video.
Fun with Maths

Many different programs were recorded in the studio of Turtle Video in Williamstown.

“Fun with Maths”, written and presented by Terry Fogarty, was the first studio based educational program produced by Channel Four - recorded in small sections with two cameras and then edited together.
