The John Wray McCann Show

In July 1976, Westcoms studio at 3 Freyer Street in Williamstown was a hive of activity. A set had been built, audience seating installed and a very nervous group of people were ready to embark on their most ambitious project to date.

Host John Wray McCann along with the Channel Four crew were about to record Westcoms first “talk show” - and it would also be the first time a show would be recorded “live” to tape in front of a studio audience.

John Robinson captured the lead up to the show in this series of photographs - some which have come from the actual negs, while others have been scanned from old contact sheets.
Westcom at the Yarraville Community Centre

Right from the start, Westcom had been setting up access points throughout the Western Suburbs. In 1976 the Yarraville Community Centre became a new access point and home to Westcom as renovations were taking place at Freyer Street.

The old school was just starting to convert into the community centre as Westcom moved in and there was a lot to be done.
